Welcome to Famello ("we," "our," or "us"). Famello is a private family productivity platform available at famello.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we collect. This Privacy Policy explains what information we gather, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal data.

2. Information We Collect

When you use Famello, we collect the following types of data:

  • Account information: Name, email address, username, and securely hashed password.
  • Profile data: Optional profile photo.
  • Content you create: Journal entries, habit tracking data, task lists, to-do items, and associated metadata (mood ratings, tags, completion dates, points).
  • Family group data: Family names, memberships, roles (admin/member), and invite codes.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns collected via Google Analytics 4.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Famello service.
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account.
  • Enable family group features such as shared tasks and family journals.
  • Send essential service notifications (password resets, security alerts).
  • Analyze aggregate usage patterns to improve Famello (via Google Analytics 4).

4. Data We Do NOT Collect or Share

  • We do NOT sell your data to any third party — ever.
  • We do NOT display ads on Famello.
  • We do NOT share your personal content (journals, habits, tasks) with anyone outside your family group.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is protected using industry-standard security measures:

  • All connections are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
  • Passwords are securely hashed using Django's built-in PBKDF2 algorithm — we never store plain-text passwords.
  • Session cookies are HTTP-only and secure in production.
  • CSRF protection is enabled on all forms.
  • HSTS headers enforce secure connections.

6. Cookies

Famello uses a minimal number of cookies:

  • Session cookie: Required for authentication. Keeps you logged in for up to 30 days. HTTP-only and secure.
  • CSRF cookie: Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks.
  • Google Analytics cookies: Used to collect anonymous usage data (see Section 7).
  • Theme preference: Stored in localStorage (not a cookie) to remember your light/dark mode choice.

7. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how Famello is used in aggregate. GA4 collects:

  • Pages visited and time spent.
  • Device type, browser, and general geographic region.
  • Referral sources.

GA4 does not collect your personal content (journal entries, habits, tasks). You can opt out of Google Analytics by using a browser extension such as Google Analytics Opt-out.

8. Children's Privacy

Famello is not directed at children under 13 years of age. Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Children between 13 and 18 should have parental or guardian consent before using the service. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we will promptly delete it and all associated data.

9. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view all your data within Famello at any time.
  • Export: You may request a full export of your data by contacting us.
  • Correction: You can update your profile and content at any time.
  • Deletion: You may delete individual entries, or request full account deletion by contacting us at support@famello.com.

10. GDPR Compliance

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to restrict processing: Request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to object: Object to our processing of your personal data.

11. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

  • All personal data, journal entries, habits, tasks, and family memberships are permanently deleted within 30 days.
  • Anonymized, aggregate analytics data may be retained.
  • Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the site. Your continued use of Famello after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
